INDEX-Werke: CNC lathes from INDEX and TRAUB
The INDEX Group develops manufacturing solutions for demanding turned parts and complex machining tasks under the INDEX and TRAUB brands. Depending on workpiece and machine concept, turning, milling, drilling and gear-cutting operations can be combined in one process and, where appropriate, performed in parallel.
This can reduce separate machining steps, additional setups and the related transport, waiting and restart times.
Turn-mill centers, automatic lathes and Swiss-type lathes from INDEX
INDEX and TRAUB turn-mill centers, automatic lathes and Swiss-type lathes can combine several machining steps on one machine where the workpiece is suitable. Parallel operations can also reduce additional machine changes.
The INDEX and TRAUB machine range at a glance
The range extends from universal and production lathes to turn-mill centers, production automatic lathes, Swiss-type sliding-headstock lathes and multi-spindle automatics. Specialized concepts are available for different workpieces, batch sizes and machining requirements.
Complete machining in one setup instead of across several machines
At INDEX, complete machining is part of a workpiece-specific process design. Machining sequence, parallel operations, setup concept, tool supply, workpiece handling and automation are coordinated to achieve high output with controlled part quality.
The benefit is greatest when previously separate operations can be combined into one continuous process. Fewer setups reduce non-cutting time and can improve accuracy between operations.
When an INDEX or TRAUB lathe pays off
An INDEX or TRAUB lathe is particularly attractive where process capability, output and cost per finished part matter more than purchase price alone. The calculation should also include setup effort, machine utilization, handling, staffing and achievable quantities.
Buy INDEX and TRAUB CNC lathes at the CNC Outlet Center
If you want to buy an INDEX or TRAUB CNC lathe or assess one for a specific project, the CNC Outlet Center records the workpiece, volume range and requirements and helps position the project within the INDEX and TRAUB portfolio before detailed configuration with INDEX.
Currently available INDEX and TRAUB machines are shown directly on this page and can be requested immediately.
View demonstration and factory-refurbished machines under power
Selected new, demonstration and factory-refurbished machines can be viewed under power and, depending on the exhibit, under cutting conditions. Controls, workspace, movements and the manufacturing concept can therefore be assessed before investing.
Refit machines are refurbished directly by INDEX to manufacturer standards, combining the economics of a used machine with manufacturer expertise in refurbishment, spare parts and service.
From the initial project outline to detailed engineering by INDEX-Werke
Part spectrum, volume range and required automation level are recorded so the enquiry can be passed to INDEX with a clear task description. Machining trials, process engineering, application engineering, training, spare parts and after-sales are then handled directly by the INDEX Group.
This keeps the workpiece-specific detailed engineering with the manufacturer.
Replacing a used lathe: have the machine park assessed
When an existing machine is replaced, an independent valuation of the current machine park can be included in the investment assessment. Residual value, possible disposal and the transition to the new INDEX or TRAUB solution can then be considered together.
Frequently asked questions
What makes INDEX and TRAUB different from a conventional CNC lathe?
INDEX and TRAUB focus on the complete manufacturing process. Depending on machine and component, turning, milling, drilling and gear-cutting operations can be combined and in some cases performed in parallel.
This can reduce setups, machine changes and non-cutting time.
Does it still pay off if another machine has a lower purchase price?
That depends on the production task. INDEX and TRAUB machines are particularly attractive where process capability, output and cost per finished part are decisive.
Purchase price alone does not include setup effort, handling, machine utilization, staffing or achievable quantities.
How does a project through the CNC Outlet Center work?
First, the workpiece, volume range, machining requirements and desired automation level are recorded. Available new, demonstration and factory-refurbished INDEX and TRAUB machines can also be viewed under power.
The enquiry is then passed to INDEX. Workpiece-specific process engineering, machining trials, application engineering and other manufacturer services are handled directly by the INDEX Group.
