Hwacheon: Korean machine tools with its own foundry and spindle production
Founded in 1945, Hwacheon is South Korea’s oldest machine tool manufacturer – a family-owned company with around 1,500 employees, four production sites, six subsidiaries and 59 dealers worldwide. Its key strength is vertical integration: Hwacheon operates its own foundry, machines structural components and manufactures spindles in-house.
This shapes the machines’ mechanical properties. With castings, bed geometry and spindles under one responsibility, damping, thermal behavior and rigidity can be coordinated as one system. Hand-scraped box guideways are one visible example.
Hwacheon also stands out for technical capability relative to investment cost. For comparable cutting performance, entry prices are often below those of many European suppliers while maintaining high mechanical quality.
